we're also looking at temperatures that are teetering around the freezing mark in virginia beach and coastal areas you'll see that snow combined with slush and sleet at times making travel more treacherous. this is where it's the worst across new jersey, philadelphia, delaware, into the baltimore/d.c. area and certainly into new york city. see these brighter white snow bands where we get the most intense snowfall. some of the rates are 1 to 2 inches per hour making travel almost impossible when you have the wind conditions and that's why the blizzard warnings go into the evening hours because of the travel hazard. you need three hours of consecutive snow and poor visibility for a blizzard warning. that's what we see here. i expanded northward to show you the snow is getting very heavy from south top north especially here in southern boston. you are getting it right now in pl plymou plymouth. north of boston toward manchester, new hampshire, things will go from bad to worse. again, i can't advise enough if you could just stay home and keep it tuned to cnn we'll keep you up to date on

same story in virginia beach. virginia beach is lovely, especially this time of year. why not just stay there for a few extra days and make it easy on you? washington, d.c., we don't see a whole lot of activity as of yet, but what's going to happen is all this is going to be pulling up to the north, where you have plenty of cold air in washington, d.c., plenty in new york too. with that, you're going to have anywhere from 4 to 8 inches of snowfall, especially for the carolinas back up into d.c. you could see anywhere from 6 to 10 inches of snowfall. some of the suburbs might pile up and get more, especially across the river into northern virginia, that could be a big problem. from philadelphia northward to new york gs the color codes going from purples to pinks, even some blues in there. now we're seeing red. what in the world is that? that is where we have blizzard warnings that are now in effect, where we're going to have the possibility of not only having snowfall, maybe in the range of 11 to 16 inches of snow, but that's going to be coupled with very powerful winds
